A beautiful sunny day and a large turn out resulted in a fantastic experience for all involved in the 2014 Take a Kid Mountain Day hosted by SIMBS at the Mt. Work Mountain Bike Park. Children from a wide range of ages and experience, following a bike check by MEC, went for an exciting loop on Hartland trails by SIMBS volunteer ride leaders. Several groups were formed, and the trails were selected to match the experience and abilities of the riders. Following the riding, a Thrifty Foods supported BBQ refueled everyone after their time on their bikes. Local businesses Oak Bay Bikes, Canadian Tire, Russ Hayes Bicycle Shop and North Park Bicycle Shop were very generous in providing valuable goods for draw prizes. In fact the local businesses were so generous that every participant received a draw prize!

The 4th Annual Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day at Cobble Hill Mountain’s Cleasby Bike Park was another great success. A glorious fall day welcomed almost 50 kids of all ages and skill levels along with their families from the South Cowichan Valley and Saltspring Island. Will Arnold from Experience Cycling was on hand to help with helmet fitting, bikes checks and plenty of free swag for the apres ride raffle. A big thank you to the many volunteers that helped guide rides all over the Cowichan Valley’s busiest regional park. Mark your calendars for the first Sunday in October of 2015!
As always, the SIMBS board would like to thank you to all the families that make Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day such a success. As well to all the local businesses that are so supportive of this family event.
