SIMBS runs events to achieve three main goals: give back to the South Island mountain biking community, promote trail advocacy and stewardship, and highlight the vital work of our volunteers and members.
This year, things are a bit different as we are currently running limited events because of COVID-19. We are hoping to expand and run more frequent events as the provincial health recommendations evolve.
To stay informed with what events we are running, please make sure to join as a member, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and sign up for our email newsletter. We also have a calendar below with all of our events.
Emergency First Aid for Mountain Bikers
Facilitated by Alert First Aid, this interactive 8 hour course trains people how to react and improvise when dealing with time priority, life threatening emergencies. The majority of the course will be spent doing hands on first-aid and participating in mountain biking-inspired first-aid scenarios. Register or learn more
May 14 from 8:30am-4:30pm at Centennial Park - Fieldhouse
Community Trail Maintenance
Hosted the third Sunday of each month, Community Trail Maintenance provides members and volunteers the chance to get their hands dirty and give back to the off-road riding community through trail maintenance and development. No prior experience or a SIMBS membership are required - just an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to help! Mentoring, tools and lunch are provided, and minors, accompanied by a guardian, are welcome! Scroll through the events calendar above for dates and details of upcoming sessions.
Annual General Meeting
Although the AGM is a legal requirement for SIMBS, we make it a party! Occurring in late February/early March, the event requires attendance from 10% of the membership. We vote in a new Board, discuss important topics, and plan for the future. This is a celebration of the South Island Mountain Bike community and tends to bring in hundreds of people for beer, pizza, prizes and democracy!
Ride the Dump Challenge
Every two weeks, June 14 through October 3, trails, a set route or particular challenge within Hartland Mountain Bike Park will be featured. Complete the trails or route within the designated timeframes and earn a digital badge plus, chance to win some sweet prizes! Cumulative elevation and distance badges can also be earned, and it’s free to participate.
Think you know your way around The Dump? Join us Sunday, October 24 for the SIMBS Fall Fifteener to find out. It’s a chart-your-own-adventure mountain bike event that challenges participants, racing as individuals or teams, to navigate through a series of checkpoints via their own plotted route. The catch? Location of the checkpoints, dotted throughout Hartland, won’t be revealed until the day-of, just before “3-2-1-go”! $15 per person, and registration includes a delicious post-race smokey or veggie dog courtesy of Red Barn Markets.
